philosophy

Our work has been primarily for the public sector - schools, community centers and state agencies. Since 1994, we have branched out to design commercial and light industrial projects.

The philosophy we use when we approach each project is summarized as follows:

  • Every design situation is unique. The context of the project and functional program dictate the form. We try to fit our design to the situation rather than fit the situation to a design style.
  • Every design is based upon thorough pre-design analysis. Clients should be involved in the process.
  • The site is unique -- always unique, and many questions are answered by looking at the site carefully.
  • The building materials should hold up, should look good in years to come. Buildings should feel solid if they are intended to be permanent.
  • The services we provide should address the client’s problems in a comprehensive manner. Vitruvius defined the comprehensive manner well: “Firmness, Commodity, and Delight.”
  • Energy conservation and respect for the environment are an important part of being a responsible professional.
