Albuquerque Main Library Renovation

Date of Completion: 2005

Building Area:
119,049 gross square feet

Contractor:
Longhorn Construction Services, Inc.

The task of this project was to emphasize the main entry on the Southeast corner, add landscaping and street furniture, accommodate a new Rapid Ride transit stop, provide a site for 1% for Public Art, and bring the 1972 design up to current codes.

A new greenhouse/atrium designates the library entry and enlarges the Book Store in the courtyard below. The sculpture, “Metal Paper” is by William Veedler. A new exit stair was added to the courtyard as well as other interior code improvements. Street trees and other landscaping were added. Bob Johns, FASLA, and Patti Hoech assisted with landscape and interior design.
