The use of the Girl Scout emblem on the outside of the structure and the openness of the entry and lobby area welcome the girls and adult volunteers to a building that is exciting and yet, very useful. The split-faced CMU provides the solidity and permanence of stone, and the generous use of glass at the entry, well protected from the west sun, affords a contrasting openness to visitors. The challenges met by design were incorporating an office wing that can be closed off at 5pm, yet allowing use of lobby and meeting rooms for evening, weekends, and over-nighters; and making use of the building wings to define a courtyard area for outdoor activities. The design also provides natural light to each office and meeting room through windows inset to provide shade most of the year, and an exterior shade structure stands to protect the large windows of the lobby and shop.
