The exterior brick color and arches are intended to honor the adjacent neighborhoods' Victorian and Southwestern style architecture. The school is designed around a plaza with flanking library and cafeteria spaces to allow for all-school meetings and community gatherings. The courtyard also provides outdoor teaching spaces, shielded from the traffic noise. This courtyard has become the center of activity for this community, as the photographs show.
